Accommodation Resources
At Berkeley Law
*These steps may change, but we do our best to stay on top of any changes, please use this as a general guide. Also, scroll to the bottom of this section for a downloadable pdf and printable checklist!*
Chronic disabilities:
The process to get accommodations may take a significant amount of time. We would recommend that you try and begin the process before the first week of classes (or well in advance) to lower your burden during orientation! Below is a detailed step-by-step guide to receiving and using accommodations at Berkeley Law.
Step 1: Request Accommodations through UC Berkeley’s main campus Disabled Students Program (DSP)
Submit an online application for services
Navigate to this website and click on “Application Process”
The application is extremely short, you will only need to have the following information:
Name
Student ID
Email
Reason for seeking accommodations
Submit the required documentation
[working to find more information here, you should get the requisite information once your online application is submitted]
Schedule a meeting with a Disability Specialist for an interactive appointment to discuss accommodations and services
During this meeting, you will discuss your unique situation with a member of DSP.
We recommend that you come prepared with research on what may be helpful for your specific situation. Law school is a very unique environment as an academic institution and knowing what may or may not be helpful to you before this meeting will best prepare you for getting what you need.
As a starting point, the Job Accommodation Network provides helpful recommendations for accommodations in education settings.
More resources will be coming to this site, feel free to email us if you have any specific questions
The National Disabled Law Students Association (we are an affiliate) also has some good resources to review
Attend a DSP orientation to learn more about your accommodations
DSP is located at 260 César E. Chávez Student Center, #4250, just off Lower Sproul Plaza.

If you are having trouble finding a time that works for you, email Chelsea directly so she can work with you.
The first meeting:
Chelsea is an extremely valuable resource to the disabled students at Berkeley Law.
During your first meeting, she will discuss how the school can best implement your accommodations and answer any questions you have.
We recommend thinking of potential questions before your first meeting so you can feel comfortable and prepared!
Continued support:
We recommend reaching out to Chelsea with any additional issues or questions with accommodations throughout your experience.
Step 3: Find out what works for you!
Every student will have accommodations that are unique to them. Because of this, it is important to begin thinking about how your accommodations will impact your study of law, your interactions with faculty, and your final examinations.
[we are working on providing some more helpful information and tips here for you to explore your options with various accommodations. If you have any questions about your specific accommodations, please contact Chelsea Yuan or the DSABL leadership team and we will be happy to help any way we can]
Step 4: Maintain your accommodations
1 month - 2 weeks prior to the beginning of each semester review your Letters of Accommodation (LOA) to request adjustments and request LOAs on AIM (Accessible Information Management) System for your upcoming courses.
July for fall and December for spring
More information on how to use AIM can be found here.
Step 5: Find a community!
We would love for you to become a part of our community, so we can support as many students as possible in obtaining accessible education at Berkeley Law.
